These efforts are centered around three key institutions: the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Centre for Leadership, Policy and Governance (ABVCLPG), the Birsa Munda Centre for Tribal Affairs (BMCTA), and the Rekhi Centre of Excellence for the Science of Happiness. Together, these centres serve as the driving force behind IIM Ranchi’s commitment to social impact.
Objective
Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ranchi has embarked on a transformative journey over the years, aiming to become an institute that is not only globally renowned but also deeply connected to its local community. Guided by their strategic plan for 2030, IIM Ranchi is actively working towards achieving the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with a focus on SDG 3 – Health and Well-being and SDG 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth. Our primary objective is to foster a healthier and more prosperous society by addressing pressing social issues related to health and economic growth. By promoting sustainable development and addressing the challenges faced in these areas, we strive to create a positive impact on the lives of individuals, communities, and the environment.

Community Circles
Every 1st of the month, community circles called “Drum-Dance-Dialogue” are conducted in various locations across Ranchi city. This innovative platform fosters profound connections among individuals from diverse segments of society, breaking down barriers and alleviating the pressures of daily life. Thousands of Ranchi citizens have already become part of this therapeutic experience through artistic platforms, forging a stronger and more connected society together.
Campus Well-being
This campaign aims to foster a more profound sense of connection and community among the members of the IIM Ranchi family. The initiatives feature a variety of activities, including a collective drum circle, human library, tree plantation, collective dance, collective meditation, blood donation camp, WeEvolve mental well-being session, professional counselling facility, collective canvas painting, mindfulness interventions, and pet therapy.
Community Library
As an institution, IIM Ranchi considers the dissemination of management thoughts and the cultivation of deep reflections among citizens to be its institutional responsibility. IIM Ranchi has established free community libraries to spread knowledge and create meaningful experiences for citizens. The Community Library provides an enriching and intellectually stimulating experience for all passengers, allowing them to utilize their waiting time by reading books, fostering new ideas, and gaining positive inspiration. Recognizing the transformative power of books, IIM Ranchi believes that they can spark profound changes and contribute to the personal and professional growth of individuals.
SDG-8 Initiatives
The Unnat Bharat Abhiyaan initiatives at IIM Ranchi promotes SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth by working towards sustained economic growth by creating decent work for all through entrepreneurship, creativity and innovation.
Unnat Bharat Abhiyan
Project Rasabeda
IIM Ranchi is working in the Rasabeda village under Unnat Bharat Abhiyan. Various programs have been organized in this village. These mainly include a detailed survey of all the villages, gram-sabha to know their problems with the people of the village, system of water flow from the source of natural water to the village for drinking water, model of agriculture and eco-tourism, various training for livelihood etc. Professors and students of IIM Ranchi have been visiting this village continuously for sustained development initiatives.
Young Changemakers Programme
IIM Ranchi believes in nurturing future responsible leaders who are committed to making a positive impact on society. The Young Changemakers Program is designed to expose students to social issues through rural immersion boot camps. By providing hands-on experiences and facilitating problem-solving skills through management techniques, the programme equips young individuals with the necessary tools and knowledge to address pressing societal challenges.

Grassroots Public Leadership Development
IIM Ranchi believes in nurturing public leaders who can drive change at the grassroots level. Through programs and fellowships, the institute provides training, mentorship, and resources to develop effective public leaders. Merit Cum Means Scholarships
IIM Ranchi is dedicated to fostering a transformative and inclusive learning environment that empowers bright minds and nurtures their potential to the fullest. Our unwavering commitment to supporting meritorious students is exemplified through the provision of 25 prestigious scholarships, amounting to ₹1 crore annually. These scholarships are specifically designed to uplift and encourage academically outstanding individuals who may face financial constraints. Our inclusive approach entails providing additional weightage and recognition to differently-abled (divyangs) students, as well as students hailing from the Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) categories. At IIM Ranchi, we firmly believe that education should not be limited by economic circumstances or societal biases; rather, it should be a powerful tool for uplifting and transforming lives, propelling individuals towards success, and igniting a lifelong journey of growth and impact.
Learning For All
IIM Ranchi’s “Learning for All” initiative aims to democratize the access and availability of management knowledge to a wider community by sharing educational content in the form of micro-learning modules and a YouTube channel. As an institute of national importance, IIM Ranchi recognizes its responsibility to contribute to the enhancement of management skills across various segments of society. The primary objective of this initiative is to break down barriers to education and provide management knowledge to a diverse audience, free of cost. This initiative aligns with IIM Ranchi’s vision to empower individuals with valuable insights and skills, regardless of their background or geographical location.
Emphasizing its commitment to local responsiveness, IIM Ranchi incorporated a significant change into its Integrated Program in Management (IPM) curriculum. All social internships are now focused on local communities, with students immersing themselves in the challenges and realities of rural life working collaboratively on business ideas that benefit both the community and the institute.
Over the years, IIM Ranchi has taken significant strides towards achieving its vision of social impact. While global oriented institutes end up into an island of excellence, seemingly disconnected from its surroundings, IIM Ranchi is consciously now transforming itself into a vibrant and enriching park where citizens can feel truly connected to their esteemed institute of national importance.
