About
The Postgraduate Programme in Management at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ranchi offers a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree. It has been the flagship programme of the institute since its inception. Currently, IIM Ranchi admits around 250 students per year through Common Admission Test (CAT), followed by personal interviews. The programme facilitates learning in theory and practice of different functional management areas. It is carefully designed based on inputs from key stakeholders, including students, alums, industry experts, and faculty. The programme also provides opportunities for students to develop their communication, leadership, interpersonal and networking skills which are critical in today’s competitive and dynamic business environment.
The conducive learning environment provided by the full-time campus life inculcates self-driven motivation and a collaborative culture among students. Our students excel in analytical abilities and demonstrate holistic development to face multiple facets of life.
Curriculum
The Postgraduate management programme is full-time residential. It is divided into six terms, spread over two years. The programme’s first year enables students to develop a fundamental understanding of different management areas. The second year comprises specialised elective courses from various management areas over three terms. The students must compulsorily complete a summer internship project for eight weeks between the first and second years. Students who want to acquire a deeper understanding of any topic or explore a topic in depth can also pursue a course of independent study under the guidance of a faculty member.

Student Exchange
The institute has built up international linkages through which it provides international exchange opportunities to its students for a term. The list of partner institutes for the student exchange programme can be found here.
Eligibility Criteria
The candidate must hold a Bachelor’s Degree, with at least 50% marks or equivalent [CGPA 45% in the case of candidates belonging to the Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Persons with Disability (PwD) categories], awarded by any University or educational institution as incorporated by an Act of Parliament or State Legislature in India or declared to be deemed as a University under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification recognised by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India.
Candidates appearing for the final year of the Bachelor’s degree/equivalent qualification examination and those who have completed degree requirements and are awaiting results can also apply. However, it may be noted that such candidates, if selected, will be allowed to join the programme provisionally, only if they submit a certificate from the Principal/Registrar of their University/Institution (issued on or before the date as stipulated by IIM Ranchi at the time of registration) stating that they have completed all the requirements for obtaining the Bachelor’s degree/equivalent qualification on the date of issue of the certificate.
Admissions for such candidates will be confirmed only when the candidate submits the mark- sheet and a certificate of having passed the bachelor’s degree/equivalent qualification referred to in the certificate issued by the principal/head of the department/registrar/director of the institution/university with at least 50% marks (45% in case of the candidate belonging to SC/ST/PwD category). It is mandatory for a final-year student, who is provisionally admitted, to submit the mark sheet and degree certificate of the final year bachelor’s degree examination held on or before a date as specified by the Academic Programme Office at the time of registration (including supplementary, if any), to be eligible for admission. The deadline for submission of the mark sheet and the certificate will be provided by the Academic Programme Office at the time of registration. Non-fulfilment of this condition will automatically result in the cancellation of the provisional admission. IIM Ranchi would not allow any candidate to join the Programme in case the candidate is unable to complete all the requirements for a bachelor’s degree on or before the date as specified by the Academic Programme office at the time of registration. IIM Ranchi may verify eligibility at various stages of the selection process, maybe even after the students have been admitted and classes have started.
The admissions/selection process for candidates for the Postgraduate programme in management at IIM Ranchi is through CAT only. Admission is made through the Common Admissions Process (CAP).
Programme Fee
The fee for MBA, MBA-HR & MBA-BA programme for the batch 2023-25 will be ₹17.2 lakh (excluding Caution Deposit, Alumni Fee & Mess Expense).
