“Indian Institute of Management Ranchi started functioning on 8th July, 2010 with 44 students. In fact the announcement of the beginning of two-year Post-Graduate Programme in 2010 was made on 5th. February in that year and in a short period of five months only, the Institute started the academic session for the first batch of students. This was possible only due to the mentorship of IIM Calcutta and the support of the Government of Jharkhand, the Chairman and the Board of Governors of IIM Ranchi and the society in general. The Institute started functioning from its present location in Suchna Bhawan with two floors of the building and hostel facilities just opposite. The faculty members of IIM Calcutta took all the courses in the first year, which became a major source of academic excellence for the students.
We are now in the third year of our existence. Two batches of students have passed out with strong academic foundation in management and successful placement in the corporate world and other organizations. We have increased our physical and other infrastructures. One more floor has been added in Suchna Bhawan for office space and the Government of Jharkhand has been kind enough to provide some more space in the third floor for additional class rooms and faculty offices. We have added more electronic academic resources and improved the IT infrastructure. We now have students’ hostel facilities in Khelgaon sports complex. We have also added more academic programmes for developing HR professionals and for the working executives.
Needless to mention that IIM Ranchi needs lot more improvement primarily in physical infrastructure. I am happy to write that we have received the land for our permanent campus from the Government of Jharkhand. Our main task now is to build the campus there with state of the art facilities for academic area, administration, faculty offices, students’ hostels, executive education and residences for faculty and staff members in the shortest possible time. We have to create the right environment for education with strong focus for research by the faculty members. We are also in the process of recruiting more regular faculty members to develop more in-house capability and capacity.
I am confident that we will succeed in fulfilling our ambition and grow on a sustained basis under the guidance of our Chairman and the members of the Board of Governors and with the support and cooperation of the Government of Jharkhand and our students, faculty members, officers and administrative staff. ”
